英文有八種不同的詞類，他們叫做word classes或parts of speech。下列是一些例子:
1. 動詞(verb):have, am, is, would, like, come, are, sitting, look...
2. 名詞(noun):conference, work, coffee, party, Saturday, Jessica, friends, corner...
3. 形容詞(adjectives):important, busy, good, cheap...
4. 副詞(adverb):tomorrow, rather, really, here...
5. 介詞(preposition):at, to, on, in...
6. 限定詞(determiner):an, this, our, the...
7. 代詞(pronoun):I, it, you...
8. 連接詞(linking verb):so, and, but...
